The CIRRUS Project (Computing and Information Resources for Research as a Utility Service) lays the foundation for the expansion of U-M’s research cyberinfrastructure capabilities.
The main goals of this project are to develop:
- strategy,
- demand forecasting, and
- key technologies such as an HPC shared cluster and data centers to match various levels of reliability and redundancy needs.
CIRRUS leverages the strengths of the partnering organizations, based on a shared-services model. Rather than duplicating campus resources, the membership comprises existing groups across campus via a cooperative matrix.
The CIRRUS partners and their contributions are:
- College of Engineering: computing cluster support and expertise, faculty liaison
- Information and Technology Services: data center management and expertise, financial, project management, human resource and communications support
- LSA: consultant and faculty liaison
- Medical School: consultant and faculty liaison
- School of Information: administrative support
